Three universities from Greece will use Cardano's blockchain for graduater's diplomas
04 January 2018   1028

Graduates of the universities of Greece will be able to confirm their qualifications with the help of a blockchain. GRNET, the national research and education network, engaged in the development of the project together with the IOHK research company, based on the blockhain of Cardano, will help them. This is reported by Bitcoin Magazine.

The GRNET project will be the first case of the practical application of Cardano: a blockchain of a crypto-currencies with the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism and platform for launching financial applications.

The project will use a private version of the Cardano blockchai system, which will have access to a limited number of persons. At the current stage, three universities have expressed their willingness to use the block for the diploma: Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Democritus University in Thrace and the University of Athens University of Economics and Business.

We cannot put any plaintext on the blockchain, as diplomas and transcripts are personal information. We only put hashes; we may put entire diplomas and transcripts, but they will always be encrypted.

The project is financed by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 program, in which the blockchain start-ups have already received about € 5 million.
