The Central Bank of Iran plans to introduce a ban on the use of "unapproved" cryptocurrency as a means of payment. This is stated in the draft document “Obligations and rules regarding cryptocurrency,” CoinDesk reports.
According to an informed source, first of all, Bitcoin will be banned, as well as tokens tied to fiat currencies, precious metals and other goods. The list of approved cryptocurrency has not been disclosed.
Also, the central bank decided to prohibit the integration of cryptowallets with any services for cryptocurrencies usage - they can only be used for storing and transferring funds. At the same time, the total amount stored outside the bank accounts of citizens should not exceed € 10,000.
In the near future, the central bank of Iran will compile a list of cryptocurrencies allowed for trading. The sites themselves will have to obtain a license to conduct activities.
It is noted that all these measures are aimed at protecting the Iranian rial from competition with digital assets.
Local companies working with cryptocurrencies, frankly shocked by the initiative of the regulator.
